I found John McCabe Nissan Dundalk to be efficient and helpful. My car was well diagnosed and I was given detailed information on issues. Service done was very good. I've rebooked car for other repair work needed, as I trust they will do excellent job.
So smooth and easy. Went out for a carton of orange juice and came home with a new car. Great value, made feel at ease throughout and they couldn’t have done enough for us. Really great experience.
My dad has always sworn by Nissan cars so naturally my first car was a Nissan. However after my experiences with John McCabe I can safely say I will never be back. I bought a car back in 2023 with John McCabe and while test driving the car noticed water leaking from the sun visors. I mentioned this to the salesman and he assured me that this would be looked into so I bought the car. This issue reoccurred whenever it was cold and I brought it back into them to have it looked at. Apparently this was not covered under the extended warranty I paid extra for and I was charged for them to once again find no issue. They dried off the car and remarked that there was a lot of moisture and left it there claiming there was no issue with the seal or anything. I let this go but after my last visit I decided to leave a review. I went in for my yearly service expecting to pay a lot of money based on the year before being charged €265 for a service and to fix my license plate. So you can imagine my shock when I was told after the service that the price would be €405. When I questioned this price I was told that they are way more expensive than other mechanics because they use “genuine parts”, and “high quality oil” which fine but that can not cost €405. I asked for an itemized list of all the costs which was made up for me and the service desk associate said he would “see what he could do for me”. He “brought the price down to €410” because apparently the price of €405 I was told on the phone didn’t include the wipers getting replaced which was about €90. He then told me that my next service will just be a minor one and will cost €275 At which point I told him I will be going elsewhere. The breakdown of costs was: €221.89 for the “full service”, oil filter was €15.10, air filter was €25.19, pollen filter was €21.04, oil and this is the funny one was €45.40, gasket was €3.58, screen wash was €3.97, the wipers in total equated to €77.66. So just be aware if you decide to go with John McCabe, there could be issues with the car you buy but they “can’t find them”, they will charge you to not fix those issues despite a warranty and they’re services in the space of a year went from €250 to €405 and they don’t tell you the price until after the service. Some additional information so this all took place in February this year and after I left my review they did not contact me they only contacted me after my dad who had just bought a brand new Nissan contacted them. So one of the guys (worth mentioning not the guy who I was dealing with in the dealership) rang me trying to “fix” the issue. Eventually after him constantly telling me how he has daughters and would never want them to feel taken advantage of about 5 times, and telling me how they have 5 different types of oil (wow right) to try and dissuade me from going to another mechanic citing how they could “break” my car, he said he would book me in for a free service to fix the original issue and suggested for the first time it is likely an issue with the windscreen. So they sold me a car with a fault, had 2 attempts to fix it and no one checked the windscreen. Well it has been 3 months and I’ve still not heard a word back. They do not stick to their word here, and from what I’ve seen their mechanics are not very good. They can’t find an issue I’ve clearly explained, when I bought the car they forgot to put coolant in it and then tried to cover their asses and took the car for 2 hours to “test for leaks” until they finally admitted their mistake. Everytime I have visited this dealership there has been some mistake made, once or twice is understandable but there is no excuse for this.
Could not express my gratitude to the guys, was in a bind as old car finally kicked the bucket so needed to get a car on the road as soon as possible, and they delivered even with an issue with the car that I had picked which would have left me without a car for another week at least so Andrew was able to source another car and had it all ready to go the following day. The whole process from start to finish was painless and stress free. Would highly recommend McCabes if you are looking for a new car.
After extended research, I ended up buying a car and it was impeccable (dream car of mine, great opportunity, the staff, namely Walter, was friendly and very professional, those were the plus factors). It was supposed to be a long term thing, but circumstances made me leave Ireland sooner than expected. I had to resell the car 3 months after buying it, before leaving Dundalk, and I talked to the stand first thing, but what they offered was much less than half of what I had payed (that would be the less positive factor of the experience). All in all, thank you. Best regards. MC
