Bought what I consider to me my dream car Audi A5 from David last week! This guy went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect with the car before he washed and valeted the car for me. He’s a good guy and I highly recommend Charton motors. Thank you David.

This is the 1st time I have written a review. I felt compelled to do so, such was my negative experience with Charton. I encourage you to read this review if you are contemplating doing business with Charton. Please comprehensively search the history of Charton who are registered under the name D.S. Cars Ltd Trading as Charton Motor Company. I have divided my review into 4 parts PART 1 – PURCHASE 29/3/25 - I purchased a Navy Mazda 6 from Charton. James of Charton informed me a new wheel bearing was required and that I should return to Charton at 3pm on 31/3/25 31/3/25 - I arrived at the premises at 3pm. The mechanic was still replacing the faulty bearing. I remained at Charton until 4:30pm. I was informed it was the incorrect bearing. I was told the car would be ready on 1/4/25 and that it would be delivered to my home. To be fair to James, I was given a car to get me home to County Louth 1/4/25 – James phoned me. He said the bearing was fitted but that the wheels had to be aligned. The mechanic would not be completing this task until 2/4/25. I was told that the car would be delivered to my home early on 2/4/25 2/4/25 – James informed me that the person assigned to deliver the car had ‘let him down’ and that he would deliver the car himself. James requested that I meet him halfway to which I declined. I was understandably frustrated with the poor customer service I had received to date. James finally delivered the car to my home at 7pm on 2/4/25 with no apology, no gesture of goodwill and a near empty fuel tank My trust and confidence in Charton was understandably very low at this point PART 2 – FAULTS • Within 3 weeks of purchase, the power decreased markedly. The dashboard displayed a ‘DPF malfunction’ message indicating excessive soot buildup in the engine. I brought the car to an authorised Mazda Dealership. I was quoted a price of €3,291.50 for repair. I was advised that the issue was serious, and that the car was not roadworthy • I noticed a humming sound particularly when the car was veering at a left bend. This was due to a faulty wheel bearing, the reason for the delay in PART 1 Ar this point, I reasonably made the decision to apply my right to terminate the contract pursuant to the Consumer Rights Act 2022. This right can be applied where the goods are faulty and within 30 days of the goods being received and includes a refund of costs for the return of the goods. I sent the termination notice by registered post and email. I received no acknowledgment of receipt. I was anxious that the 30-day clock was ticking. I phoned Charton PART 3 – PHONE CALL • David of Charton said that I should have contacted him before exercising my right to terminate the contract • I said that I had no confidence in Charton and my reasons were explained in detail in the termination letter • David said he could see no problem with the customer service I had received and that there will always be problems with cars despite the issues occurring within 3 weeks • David said that he would not be refunding me the cost of delivering the car to Charton despite this being a legal obligation • David accused me of being a serial negative reviewer. As stated earlier, this is the 1st time I have written a review. PART 4 – RETURN OF CAR I returned the car to Charton. I asked David for my refund. David stated he was exercising his legal right not to refund me until 14 days after the receipt of the termination I exercised my legal right to terminate the contract on very strong grounds. I will leave it to readers to draw their own conclusions as to why David exercised his legal right to delay my refund for 14 days At the time of writing this review, it is 18 days since I exercised my legal right to a refund. Charton has been illegally withholding payment for at least 4 days. I have initiated legal proceedings by way of enforcement order with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) to recover my refund and associated costs I will also be lodging a complaint with SIMI Thank you for taking the time to read this review
Avoid this company, We bought a car off this company and had nothing but trouble from the minute we drove it out the gate. Charton motors took the car back to "fix" the issue of the car over heating and I use the term fix loosely. Not only did they not fix it they kept are car for weeks on end without even touching it. We were given excuse after excuse that staff was low people were on holidays and so on. To add insult to injury the owner and what is meant to be the face of the company would conviently disappear when I would arrive to drop or collect the car. We eventually got the car back fixed again I use the term loosely. The car constantly over heating we gave up on charton motors as at this point they were giving us the run around by holding onto our car for a long period of time and never actually fixing it we have since found out that the over heating was down to the head gasket being gone. I find it absolutely astonishing our car went back to charton motors to be repaired several times and their mechanic did not notice it. It is very obvious charton motors sold us a car that the knew the head gasket was going or gone. The laughable part of all this is Ciarans response to bad reviews is to blame incompetent staff when after dealing with him first hand he himself is incompetent so I'm not sure what he expects from his staff. I wish I had read the reviews here before handing money over to this so called business. And if you're completely unsure the comments under photos on their Facebook page should definitely persuade you to stay away. EDITED TO ADD We've had to replace the whole engine in our car which is down to an issue we had highlighted to charton motors a week after we drove out of their garage. What our mechanic has discovered what was done to the engine to cover up numerous issues is genuinely appalling. No reply to my review charton motors??? You seem to have skipped over mine? Surely you have some sort of excuse? STAY WELL CLEAR
