Toyota reveals all-electric bZ4X

Toyota's new all-electric SUV will arrive to Irish shores in May 2022

Toyota has announced details of the all-new bZ4X, the first model in a new series of bZ – beyond Zero – battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The European Premier and full reveal will take place in early December, and Irish motorists will be able to test drive the new zero emissions bZ4X at Toyota dealerships from May 2022.

Michael Gaynor, Marketing Director for Toyota Ireland commented: “We are thrilled to reveal the bZ4X production model today and we can’t wait to bring it to Irish motorists in May 2022. The bZ4X is the next step in our electrification journey, and it will be a welcome addition to our industry leading range of low CO2 self-charging hybrids. As our first fully electric SUV, the bZ4X makes an impressive statement in terms of both form and function, blending dynamic SUV design, genuine all-wheel-drive capability, and a powerful battery capable of delivering more than 450 kilometres on one charge."

The introduction of the bZ4X means Toyota now offers a full line-up of electrified vehicles, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles. The new bZ4X is the first model to be developed by Toyota entirely as abattery electric vehicle. It is also the first car to be built on the company’s new BEV dedicated platform.

Incorporating the battery unit as an integral part of the chassis, beneath the vehicle floor, this gives the fundamental benefits of a low centre of gravity, good weight balance and high body rigidity for exceptional safety, ride and handling. The bZ4X is a spacious SUV, available with a new all-wheel drive system that provides off-road handling and performance with separate electric motors for each axle. Its sleek SUV styling is combined with a long wheelbase and open five-seat cabin, with generous load capacity.

Toyota has drawn on almost 25 years’ experience in electrified vehicle battery technology to secure world-leading quality, durability and reliability for the lithium-ion unit which powers the bZ4X. Even after 10 years of driving, the battery is expected to still operate at 90% of its original performance*. With a fully charged battery, expected range is more than 450 kilometres. The bZ4X will also offer advanced technology features, including a third generation Toyota Safety Sense with new and improved active safety and driver assistance systems.
