Tesla Unveil the World’s Fastest Car

The Tesla Roadster was launched as a special add-on to the Semi truck. It will go from 0-60mph even faster than 1.9 seconds.

Last week electric car giants Tesla held a launch event for their much anticipated all-electric ‘Semi Truck’. The new electric lorry will achieve 500 miles of range at maximum weight at 60mph and can go from zero-60mph in just five seconds, even with a max load of 80,000lbs it can accelerate to 60mph in just 20 seconds.

The Semi Truck also host’s advances in safety technology with motors on each wheel which alter torque and eliminates the possibility of jack-knifing. Drivers of the Semi Truck will sit centrally instead of to one side with two touchscreens on either side similar to those seen in other Tesla models.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk commented on the new Semi Truck saying, "Because this truck has no gears, you're not constantly shifting gears. It's smooth. It's like you're driving a Tesla, a Model S, or Model X, or Model 3, it's just big."

But this was not all that was going to be unveiled at Tesla’s launch event in Hawthorne California. To the surprise to viewers Tesla unveiled the New Tesla Roadster as a shock add-on to the Semi Truck unveiling.

Based on the first car that Tesla produced, the Roadster 2.0 will go from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds. This means the Roadster will be the first car to accelerate to 60mph in under two seconds, making it the world’s fastest car.

It will also go from 0-100mph in 4.1 seconds and cover a quarter mile drag strip in 8.9 seconds.

The Tesla Roadster is set to have a top speed of 250mph+, which means it will be faster than both the McLaren F1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari. The Roadster incorporates a 200kWh battery which has the capability to achieve a range of 620 miles on a single charge.

The base model Roadster will set you back €200,000 and a Founders Edition model has also been confirmed which will cost €250,000.

In a Tweet Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the performance outlined was the base model and that there will be a special option package available that will ‘take it to the next level’. This was attached to the photograph of the Roadster saying “0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 sec.”

Take what you want from this but there is no doubt that the electric car manufacturers mean business.
