What's the news?
Using Bill Cullen's new showroom in Dublin as a base, SsangYong this week launched its new Rexton W model onto the Irish market. Pricing starts at €34,119 and the large SUV will be offered in commercial, five-seat utility and seven-seat passenger guises with a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes.

Exterior
Though the silhouette of the new Rexton W will be familiar to fans of its predecessor, the detailing is more sophisticated and it has been modernised. Five exterior colours are available: Carbonic Grey, Space Black, Silent Silver, Grand White and Royal Brown.

Interior
The interior has been updated considerably and the level of standard equipment is relatively high. 'Leatherette' upholstery is standard, while full leather is optional. The stereo has USB and Bluetooth connectivity as standard.

Mechanicals
All models are powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 155hp at 4,000rpm and 360Nm of torque between 1,500- and 2,800rpm. This is SsangYong's own unit. Part-time four-wheel drive is standard, with high and low selectable ranges. Both the manual and automatic gearboxes have six ratios.

The manual models emit 173g/km for Band E taxation as a passenger vehicle, while the automatic transmission results in 206g/km emissions and Band F taxation. The official combined fuel consumption figures are 7.8- and 7.4 litres/100km respectively (36.2- to 38.2mpg).

Anything else?
Along with the two-seat commercial model (€34,119 manual/€36,769 auto) there is a half-way house model called the five-seat Business Edition classed as a commercial utility vehicle. This costs €38,329, or €41,377 with an automatic transmission. Topping the line-up is the seven-seat passenger model, priced at €44,474 with a manual gearbox or €48,185 as an automatic.

As with all models in the SsangYong range, the new Rexton W is covered by a five-year warranty. Up to 150,000km in commercial versions and limitless on passenger versions. Five years' roadside assistance also applies.
