We motoring journos have a cushy life, right? And we're sure some of you would like to see us get our comeuppance. But even so, you've got to admit that this is a bit extreme.
At a demonstration of the autonomous pedestrian detection safety systems on a Volvo XC60, in this instance being held in the Dominican Republic, two 'brave' hacks stand in front of the car that's going to safely brake well before it gets to them...
We think you can all guess what happens next.
But calm yourself, anti-self-driving car brigade, because this incident cannot be held aloft as a standard in the war on autonomous machines. As this clown-fisted cock-up was entirely down to human error - and we're not talking about the gullible two scribblers who ended up lying on the pavement (bruised, a bit shocked but thankfully absolutely fine, we might add).
Turns out the XC60 in question either didn't have the systems correctly activated by the inept Johnny driving it, or was not even fitted with this cost-option technology at all. Thus providing everyone trying half-arsed PR stunts with a salutary lesson to read the car's spec sheet really carefully before trying anything this daft again.
