Rolls-Royce rally car revealed

Volkswagen recently unveiled the Polo R WRC, its entrant for the 2013 Word Rally Championship, and as expected the move into rallying has drawn the attention of Volkswagen's rivals, keen to stop the Wolfsburg company from grabbing the limelight associated with WRC success. BMW fielded a WRC team last year via its MINI sub-brand, but for its latest assault it seems to have looked to one of its other brands.

This video shows a Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II undergoing initial testing at a secret BMW test facility and despite being classed as the ultimate luxury car the Rolls seems well capable of tearing it up with the rest of them. Powered by a 6.75-litre V12 engine that produces 453hp the Phantom drifts and slides around the green field test area and even manages a smoking burnout. It seems a kerb weight of nigh on three tonnes is no hindrance to the car and in fact could be beneficial to the car's WRC success as it means the Phantom will not be buffeted by the Sardinian or Greek Metropolis circuits that make up part of the 2013 WRC.

Either that or the video shows a rich gentleman hooning his Rolls-Royce around his estate, but which excuse do you think is most likely?
