The Gardaí tend to enjoy driving round in fairly humdrum cars; think machines like the Toyota Avensis, Ford Mondeo or even Hyundai i30s lately. Worthy cars all, but hardly the sort of things to strike fear into getaway-driving criminals the length and breadth of Ireland.
But in Italy, they do things a bit differently. Barely have international motoring journalists finished testing Lamborghini's new 'junior' supercar, the Huracán LP 610-4 - which means it has 610hp driving through all four wheels - than the boss of the company has handed one over to the Carabinieri in Rome.
Stephan Winkelmann, the president and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, gave the Huracán to Prefect Alessandro Pansa, the head of the Italian State Police, during a ceremony at the Italian capital's Museo delle Auto Storiche della Polizia di Stato. And that's easier for you to say than for us to write.
This isn't the first time the Italian police have used such a wild pursuit car, though. They ran Gallardos, from the same maker, from 2004 to 2008. And forces elsewhere in the world utilise some pretty wild stuff, with the Dubai police having all manner of metal from Lamborghini, Ferrari and even Aston Martin in full law enforcement livery. Over the Irish Sea in the UK they've been known to use such varied machinery as a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, an array of Lotuses and even a Lexus IS F.
Still, the Huracán is the star here, with its 5.2-litre V10 capable of propelling it to 325km/h. And you have to say, it looks pretty good in Italian police colours. Not the kind of car to engage in a high-speed pursuit, then - unless, by some chance, you'd just done a bank job and your mode of escape was a McLaren P1...
