The latest model is now available to order in Ireland featuring a host of new exterior, interior and tech updates.
The new Tiguan has been revised and refined to be cleaner and more digital. It boasts a range of new, more efficient petrol and diesel engines and these will be followed later this year with an all-new Plug-In Hybrid Model (PHEV). There is also now a separate Tiguan R model for the very first time, offering the performance associated with Volkswagen’s R models, with all the practicality of a Tiguan.
The new Tiguan has revised styling details, including the bonnet which is more concise in its appearance and a new radiator grille with LED headlights is wider, and the new Volkswagen badge positioned centrally at the front. There are redesigned bumpers, and at the rear the Tiguan lettering is now in a prominent central position below the Volkswagen badge.
Inside there is a new steering wheel featuring touch controls (standard on R-Line and R) and Volkswagen has also digitalised the climate controls with touch sliders and touch buttons in some trim levels. Optional IQ.LIGHT (€512 on R-Line, standard on Elegance and R) - LED matrix headlights guide drivers through the night with enhanced convenience.
The new Tiguan starts from €32,510 ‘On the Road’ or from €339 per month with interest- free 0% PCP Finance (Tiguan Elegance). 0% APR PCP Finance is also available on the Tiguan R-Line (from €349). The petrol range consists of 130hp and 150hp 1.5-litre engines with a choice of manual or DSG automatic and at the top of the petrol range is the new 320hp 2.0-litre TSI 4MOTION R model at €66,990.
The diesel range is comprised of 2.0-litre TDI engines with 122hp (manual only), 150hp (manual and DSG automatic) and a 200hp 4MOTION DSG range-topping diesel. The TDI engine in the Tiguan is now equipped with two sequentially arranged separate AdBlue injection systems and SCR catalytic converters. This twin dosing technology reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) considerably compared with its predecessor. All new Tiguan models equipped with TSI and TDI engines fulfil the requirements of the Euro 6d emission standard.
There are new trimlines for the new Tiguan. The ‘Tiguan’ trimline offers strong value for money at €32,510 with a 1.5-litre 130hp petrol engine and €34,345 with a 2.0-litre, 122hp diesel engine. All Tiguan models feature 17-inch Montana alloy wheels, 8-inch Ready 2 Discover radio system, 2 USB-C ports in the front, Air Conditioning and LED daytime running lights. There is also Wireless App Connect for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Tiguan Life model starts at €35,285 for the 1.5-litre, 130hp petrol engine with a manual gearbox or €40,330 with a 7-speed DSG. The 2.0-litre TDI Diesel Life starts at €36,515 with a 6-speed manual transmission or €41,425 with a 7-speed DSG automatic. Life models add items such as 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels, 8-inch Discover Media Navigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Distance Control, 3-zone climate control, Natural voice control, black roof rails and tinted rear windows as well as Comfort seats in the front and additional storage compartments.
A further step up comes in the Elegance trimline which is aimed at buyers wanting the best of technology, which comes with one petrol version, a 1.5-litre TSI 150hp 7-speed DSG for €45,020. There are three diesel versions of this trimline, a 2.0-litre 150hp manual for €43,350, a 7-speed DSG version of this for €48,470 and a 200bhp 2.0-litre 4MOTION with DSG for €56,835. The Elegance trimline offers, in addition to the Life model, items such as 19-inch Victoria Falls alloy wheels, ArtVelours upholstery, an ambient lighting pack with 30 colours, a multifunction steering wheel, heated front seats, chrome elements, Panoramic sunroof, Adaptive Cruise Control ACC Stop & Go incl. speed limiter, Park Assist with Park Distance Control, Keyless entry and Lane change system ‘Side Assist’ and Rear Traffic Alert.
For buyers that want a ‘sportier’ design for their Tiguan, there is the R-Line trimline. There is one petrol R-Line, a 1.5-litre TSI 150hp, mated to a 7-speed DSG, for €45,920 and there are three diesel R-Line Tiguans – a 2.0-litre 150hp with a 6-speed manual transmission for €44,195, with a 7-speed DSG transmission for €47,920 and at the top of the range, a 2.0- litre 200hp 4MOTION 7-speed DSG R-Line for €60,355. R-Line models gain 20-inch Suzuka Alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers in ‘R-Line’ design and a rear spoiler in ‘R’ style. Inside there is an ‘R-Line’ interior including decorative ‘Carbon Grey’ inserts and a black headliner. There is also the option of an R-Line Black Style Exterior Pack featuring light absorbing privacy glass, body-coloured bumpers in R-Line black style, black decorative trims and black exterior mirror housing for €435.
At the very top of the Tiguan range there is now the new Tiguan R which continues the pedigree of the Golf and T-Roc R as an additional R model, featuring the potent 2.0-litre TSI unit putting out 320hp. All that power is assisted by 4MOTION all-wheel drive and helps the Tiguan R sprint to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. This 4MOTION also features R-Performance Torque Vectoring – this system does not just distribute the drive power between the front and rear axles, but also distributes it variably between the left and right rear wheels.
This improves handling agility when cornering in particular. The Tiguan R also looks the part too, with 21-inch Estoril alloy wheels, blue ‘R’ style disc brakes front and rear, gains body-coloured bumpers in ‘R’ design, exterior mirrors in matte chrome, a multi-function sports steering wheel with ‘R’ racing paddles and ‘R’ integrated front head restraints.
Later this year, the Tiguan range will become electrified with the addition of the new Tiguan eHybrid, which will form an important part of the brand’s “Way to Zero” campaign. This Plug- In Hybrid (PHEV) version of the Tiguan forms part of the brands steps to becoming a CO2- neutral company by 2050. The Tiguan eHybrid features a 1.4-litre TSI engine twinned with an electric motor that produces a combined 245hp and makes the eHybrid capable of covering up to 50km in electric mode. More details of the arrival of this important version of the Tiguan are expected in the coming months.
