New look for Outlander

 What's new?

A refreshed Mitsubishi Outlander has been unveiled at the New York Auto Show. The new look appears to be heavily influenced by the XR-PHEV II Concept that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and is set to begin a new era of design language for the firm.

Outside

The front benefits from new LED lights and some chrome detailing around the grille that gives the Outlander a more premium image. Changes have also been made to the lower door sections while the new 18-inch alloy wheels and rear lights round off what is a noticeable update.

Inside

A redesigned multifunction steering wheel and new infotainment system bring a more modern look to the interior of the new Mitsubishi Outlander. New materials on the seats and accent panels also add to the refreshed look that will help it to compete against the high standard in this segment. As will refinements in the form of increased sound insulation, as well as noise-insulating glass in the windscreen and rear door.

Under the bonnet

Under the skin, Mitsubishi's engineers have added a new electric power steering system and performed upgrades to the Outlander's suspension to not only improve the ride quality but to also increase body and structural rigidity. Mitsubishi has also overhauled its CVT automatic transmission in order to improve acceleration as well as torque delivery and overall performance.

How does this relate to Ireland?

Many of these changes are also expected to be carried across to the five-seat Outlander PHEV model, which has proven popular with Irish buyers thanks to its lower CO₂ emissions and extended range.
