Hot on the heels of the new 4 Series Coupe, BMW has revealed details of the new 4 Series Convertible. The 4 Series Convertible brings lots of updates with a brand new soft-top, revised engine range and impressive new levels of standard equipment, alongside some significant changes in the styling department.
All new 4 Series Convertible models feature M Sport specification as standard, with a new M Sport Pro Edition also available that emphasises on performance. The new 4 Series Convertible launches with the M440i XDrive badge, a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with an eight speed gearbox and 374hp, along with BMW’s latest xDrive all-wheel-drive system. There will also be a choice of two four cylinder petrol units and four cylinder diesel engine when the 4 Series Convertible launches in March 2021, while the two straight six diesel engines will join the engine line-up later in 2021.
The new 4 Series Convertible is larger than before as it is longer and wider than its predecessor. In terms of styling, the most striking change is BMW’s new kidney grille that has a pronounced forward slant. Full LED headlights are standard, while BMW’s visibility pack adds BMW Laserlight at an additional cost. The new 4 Series Convertible has a low slung look, particularly with the roof down. New LED lights at the rear are darkened and slimmer than before for a sportier silhouette at the rear.
The 4 Series Convertible boasts a new panel bow soft top for reduced weight and improved style. BMW says this blends the benefits of a retractable hard top roof with the traditional appeal of a fabric roof. The roof is powered by an electric motor and it can open or close within 18 seconds at a push of a button, including at speeds of up to 50km/h. The variable soft top compartment allows boot space to increase from 300 litres to 385 litres when the roof is closed.
Inside, the 4 Series Convertible has a driver-focused cockpit design with standard features such as electric sports seats, Vernasca leather trim, heated seats and a leather steering wheel. All 4 Series Convertibles come with the M Sport specification as standard, which includes large front air intakes, a sculpted rear apron, M Sport suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels, sport seats upholstered in Vernasca leather trim, knee pads on the centre console and a Sensatec dashboard. Live Cockpit Professional, Ambient Lighting, electric seats, reverse camera, reversing assist, Welcome Light Carpet, three-zone automatic climate control and 10.25-inch CID are also included as standard.
Buyers can also opt for an M Sport Pro Edition, which adds such highlights as Jet Black 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, a choice of three Individual paint shades – Tanzanite Blue, Dravit Grey and Aventurin Red (from 07/21), darkened headlights, M seatbelts, Sprint Mode, Adaptive M Suspension and Enhanced Active Sound Design that delivers a sporty engine soundtrack in the interior.
In Ireland, prices for the new 4 Series Convertible will start from €61,565 for the entry 420i sDrive M Sport, while first deliveries are expected in March 2021.
