DS launches Performance Line

DS is launching a new Performance Line.

It may be trying to re-create the classic luxury of the original DS saloon, but the DS brand also knows that sport sells these days, so it's launching a DS Performance Line series of options that will give the fledgling French luxury car brand a weapon with which to fight BMW's M Sport and Mercedes' AMG-Line.

Actually, in recent years, the DS badge has carved out a bit of a motorsports rep - the DS Virgin Racing team competes (and wins) in the electric Formula E championship and many of the great Sebastian Loeb's rally titles were won at the wheel of a DS3.

Even so, this might take some convincing, especially as there are no engine tweaks to go along with the new styling. Performance Line is available across the entire DS range and consists of a black contrast roof, new body colour options, black wheels, 'Carmine Red' highlights, a rear spoiler, LED lights and DS Performance Line badges.

Inside, there is a choice of Black Dinamica cloth trim or two optional grades of leather with over-sized stitching. You'll also find heavily-stitched leather on the steering wheel, gearknob and doors along with embroidered DS Performance Line badges. There's also metallic detailing and LED lighting.

All Performance Line models get a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. "The 'DS Performance Line' offers all the fundamental ingredients of a Grand Tourer, namely style and driving pleasure," said Éric Apode, DS Automobiles' Vice President for Products and Business Development.
