BMW showcases the all-electric iX

The BMW iX is comparable with the BMW X5 in length and width, and is almost the same height as the BMW X6 due to its flowing roofline.

BMW has showcased the first images of the new all-electric iX which is due to go on sale at the end of 2021. The iX boasts a newly-developed and minimalistic design, while it features lots of innovative technology including automated driving and a connected cabin.

The BMW iX features the brand’s fifth generation eDrive technology with two electric motors and high performance credentials. It develops an output of 500hp which means it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in under five seconds from a standstill.

BMW has also developed the iX with low power consumption in mind, and it says that the iX will offer a class leading consumption figure of 21 kWh per 100 kilometres of driving according to the WLTP test cycle.The iX will offer a range of over 480 kilometres from a single charge as a result, while the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in under 40 minutes with rapid charging.

The batteries fitted in the BMW iX are designed as part of a long-term resource cycle and enable an exceptionally high recycling rate. The power used to produce the battery cells and the high-voltage battery as a whole come exclusively from renewable sources.

The size of its wheels, meanwhile, puts it on par with the flagship BMW X7. The iX boasts a tall and encloded front kidney grille design up front, while it has the slimmest headlights ever to feature on a series production BMW model.

BMW ix Interior

A high level of spaciousness, high-quality materials, and newly developed seats an exceptionally large panoramic glass roof  feature in the iX, with a luxurious, lounge-like ambience. The displays and controls are all stripped down to the essentials, further reinforcing the impression of an uncluttered cabin offering a place of relaxation.

The iX’s body structure, features an aluminium spaceframe and innovative Carbon Cage, has an extremely high torsional stiffness which enhances agility and maximises occupant protection while minimising weight. Combined, these elements ensure iX is remarkably composed and relaxing driving characteristics, while also providing an instant and precise response to every movement of the accelerator and turn of the steering wheel.
