Bentley scents success

Luxury carmaker Bentley offers range of Infinite fragrances for men.

As you may have gathered if you're a regular visitor to these pages, we like to poke gentle fun at the car companies' more ludicrous excesses from time to time. Sometimes, they don't play ball and you end up mocking them for something that's not really so bad after all. But on this occasion, Bentley has thrown us an absolute doozy that's just begging to be hit out of the park.

You see, this fabled carmaker has come up with a new fragrance. For the interior, we hear you ask? No, it's a range of Bentley-branded eau de toilette and eau de parfum, suitable for the well-heeled gentleman buyer. Yes, really. Called Infinite, this stuff is said to 'embody a desire for genuine freedom and individuality, inherent qualities in the DNA of the world's leading luxury carmaker'. And in absolutely no way is it just a shameless method of cashing in on the Bentley brand...

Said to be designed for 'active, fashion-conscious men in search of stylish personal accessories with a distinctive flair and world-class quality' (we're not making this stuff up, honestly), the eau de toilette promises its wearer 'limitless enjoyment' while the eau de parfum is said to serve up 'unending delight'. Such exotic ingredients as patchouli, vetiver from Haiti, bourbon pepper, nutmeg, elemi and Siam benzoin are thrown into Bentley Infinite's formula, while even the Winged-B-branded bottle it comes in is lauded as a symbol of the Crewe company's class.

We're sure these colognes are absolutely lovely, but like the cars they aren't exactly cheap either. If you're interested in Infinite, which goes on sale in most good department stores from April, the eau de toilette retails at €59 for 60ml, or €79 for 100ml, the eau de parfum is €87 for 100ml and there's even hair and body shampoo for €27 for 200ml. Good grief.
