Updated Touareg is cheaper than ever

Volkswagen has refreshed the Touareg SUV and dropped the price.

What's new?

Volkswagen's biggest, the imposing Touareg SUV, is having another assault on the Irish car market and it's coming in 2015 with a lower price tag.

Redesigned on the inside and out (albeit this is quite a mild facelift), the new Touareg can be identified by 20-inch alloy wheels, new front and rear light clusters and an updated interior. That interior now comes with leather upholstery as standard, along with 14-way adjustable electric seats and a high-end infotainment system that connects to your phone or iPod.

Under the big bonnet lies a choice of 204- or 262hp V6 3.0-litre turbodiesel engines, which emit between 173- and 180g/km of CO2. That number has been reduced thanks to the new eight-speed automatic gearbox, improved aerodynamics and lower rolling resistance tyres. Fuel consumption has also improved to 6.6 litres/100km on average for both versions of the engine.

What options are there?

For those who demand more of their Touareg, there is the option of a Terrain Technology pack for €2,630, which adds off-road suspension (raised 10mm front, 15mm rear), front underbody guard and additional engine guard, additional stone guard body covers, rear axle mechanical differential lock, off-road speed-reducing ratio and flywheel and an increased fuel tank capacity (100 litres).

The 2015 Touareg is available to order now and as a special offer, models bought in the first quarter of 2015 will gain a free 'Upgrade Pack' consisting of a "RNS 850" Navigation System (R3A), which includes Premium cell phone preparation for RNS 850 (9ZW) and Media-In for RNS 850 (WDF) or Media-In for RNS 850 with iPod/iPhone cable (WDI). Three years' free servicing, 3.9% PCP and 5.9% APR will also be offered.
