Skoda is updating the Superb, with a mid-life round of trim updates, and the offer of zero per cent finance if you buy one before the end of February.

Pleasing users of the Samsung Galaxy and iPhone 8 and X, there's now wireless phone charging included as standard, plus the addition of a built-in SIM card that allows both a connection to the Skoda customer service system and emergency assistance calls. Additionally, the eCall system can automatically call for help if you've had a crash and can't get to your phone.

There's also the option of a massive new 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, which is standard on top-spec Laurin & Klement models. Thanks to the SIM card, it can also get online infotainment services such as news, weather and access to Google Maps, and Skoda is throwing in one year's subscription to that service.

On the mechanical front, the old six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox is being replaced by a more up-to-date seven-speed unit, while the Sportline model now comes with a panoramic sunroof and 19-inch alloys, and a small price increase of €250.
