See all Motoring NewsSEAT has just announced prices for its incoming Ateca, the Spanish car maker's first SUV, and it's going to undercut the top-selling Nissan Qashqai by almost €1,000.
The Ateca range will kick off with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI petrol turbo model, with 115hp, at €24,750 compared to the €25,620 Nissan asks for a basic 1.2 petrol turbo Qashqai. The 1.6 TDI Ateca will retail for €26,450, which is €1,100 less than the price of a basic SE model Qashqai 1.5 dCi.
Clearly, SEAT wants to be seen to offer some pretty sharp value in the segment.
The 1.4 TSI turbo petrol version is €27,920 and the bigger 2.0 TDI diesel with 150hp is €29,500, while four-wheel drive models kick-off at €31,500. The 1.6 TDI will likely be the volume seller, though.

There is no doubt that the Ateca will provide motorists with an exceptional driving experience, high class design and innovative technology."
The car is a critical one for SEAT, as it seeks to expand its sales across Europe, and with the SUV and crossover segments continuing to grow exponentially, there was no longer any chance of SEAT continuing to ignore the 4x4 market.
Don't go thinking that it's all about knock-down prices though. If you want a ritzy Ateca, SEAT will make one for you. There will be a range-topping Ateca XCELLENCE model, which will include wireless phone charging and KESSY, a keyless entry with start system as standard, as well as full LED headlights, multi coloured ambient interior lighting that adjusts to suit the driver's mood and welcome lights in the wing mirrors, full leather interior, an eight-inch colour touchscreen media system and heated front seats, with prices starting at €31,120.
