Renault updates the Clio

Renault has revealed its updated Clio hatchback.
The current fourth-generation Renault Clio, which has been around since 2012, is due its midlife facelift. The French company has also taken the opportunity to freshen up its technical offerings too, in the form of new engines and some extra in-car connectivity.

The visual makeover is modest. Full LED lighting at the front, with the brand's now-trademark C-shaped daytime running lights on certain versions, couples with a mildly redesigned grille around that huge Renault diamond, while the lower bumper has been re-sculpted. At the back, all that's different is the lower skirt, redesigned for 'additional robustness', apparently. Renault will offer some new alloy wheel and hubcap designs, a more extensive personalisation programme and four fresh body colours: Mars Red, Titanium Grey, Arctic White and Iron Blue.

Again, design-wise it's just a light refresher here and there inside, Renault saying it has used finishing materials previously reserved for its higher-end models. All the upholsteries are new, the plastics have been done over and the chrome trim now has a subdued, matte finish. The bigger news here is the choice of three connected multimedia systems: Media Nav Evolution, Renault R-Link Evolution and the R&GO system on entry-spec cars. Further goodies on the options list include a Bose sound system, various driving aids, front parking sensors (to go with the standard-fit rear items) and a reversing camera, and even Handsfree Parking capability.

Assuming Irish specifications follow that of the rest of Europe, all of the existing engines are carried over, along with a new-for-Clio 1.5-litre dCi 110hp diesel engine (it has been seen in the Captur) with a six-speed manual transmission, as well as the availability of the manual gearbox with the TCe 120hp petrol engine. Depending on the market, there are up to 11 engine/transmission choices for the facelifted Clio IV.

Irish ordering should begin towards the end of Q3 this year, with deliveries commencing soon after. Full pricing, specifications and the range line-up will be confirmed nearer the time.
