See all Motoring NewsRenault’s new large SUV, the Koleos, has been officially launched in style at Palmerstown Estate in Kildare. Carzone was in attendance at the launch and this was our first chance to drive the Koleos on Irish roads, which will be available in both two and four-wheels-drive versions with prices starting from €34,490.
The Koleos is available with a choice of two diesel engines, a 1.6-litre dCi diesel producing 130bhp or a larger 2.0-litre dCi diesel (175bhp). In terms of transmissions, there is either a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic X-Tronic transmission. Thanks to high ground clearance, the Koleos is a capable off-roader too especially when equipped with Renault’s four-wheel-drive system.
Inside, the Koleos is quite spacious and standard specification in Dynamique S Nav models is good, with features like a panoramic roof, part black leather upholstery, ambient lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated door mirrors, tinted rear windows and rugged-looking roof bars as standard. Stretch to the higher level Signature Nav model and larger 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, full leather upholstery, a larger 8.7-inch touch screen display and heated seats are added amongst other items.
Other optional extras include a 13-speaker Bose sound system (a must for music lovers), Hands Free Parking and different colour leather upholstery. The Koleos features a plethora of standard safety kit too, including traction and understeer control, speed limiter, hill start assist, ABS and EBS (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and ISOFIX mounts on the two outer rear seats.
We were impressed with just how planted the Koleos feels out on the road, particularly when equipped with four-wheel-drive. Our test route took us along various back roads in Kildare and all the time it felt surefooted with minimal cabin noise and the diesel engines are well-suited to its bulk.
