What's the news?
Hyundai Ireland has announced pricing and specification for the 2014 ix35, a model it describes as capturing strong interest in dealer showrooms nationwide. Prices for the Nissan Qashqai rival will begin at €25,495 for the entry level Celebration specification car with a 1.7-litre diesel engine. This represents a €1,000 saving over a comparable Qashqai according to Hyundai, but it has not scrimped on the equipment. Air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels and electronic assistance systems such as Downhill Brake Control (DBC), Hill start Assist Control (HAC) and Trailer Stability Control (TSC) are included as standard.

The price walk to Comfort specification is €1,500 and with it comes cruise control, heated seats, Bluetooth and auto wipers. The €28,245 Executive models include dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloys, part leather seats and a rear camera, while the range topping Premium cars add a full leather interior and panoramic sunroof for €30,495.

All prices quoted are for the 1.7-litre turbodiesel variant, which qualifies for annual road tax of €280 by virtue of the front-wheel drive layout and resulting 139g/km emissions. Four-wheel drive is available in both Comfort (€30,495) and Executive (€32,245) specifications with the latter also offered with an automatic transmission (€35,995), though that does see its road tax come in at €750 per annum.

Anything else?
According to Stephen Gleeson, Managing Director, Hyundai Ireland, "We are witnessing major conquest sales for January 2014 and the new ix35 Celebration Diesel model, at almost €1,000 less than the entry level new Qashqai diesel, is set to challenge for the number one spot in the retail SUV segment during 2014."
