Peugeot reveals diesel RXH
Remember the Peugeot 508 RXH? No, you probably don't - it was a high-riding, crossover estate version of the 508 SW that featured Peugeot's diesel-engined HYbrid4 system - a combination of batteries, diesel and four-wheel-drive, which never quite caught on with the buying public.
Well, now the RXH is back, and it's a lot simpler and more affordable. Peugeot has stripped out the heavy, expensive hybrid system, but kept the high-riding style and looks. It now comes with a 180hp 2.0-litre HDi diesel engine, fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Peugeot says it'll emit 119g/km of CO2 (not an awful lot worse than the old hybrid's 99g/km figure) and return 61mpg on the combined cycle.
With a price tag of €41,595, it also comes with a lot of standard equipment. It has a seven-inch multi-function touchscreen and satellite navigation system, CD player, blind spot monitoring system, colour heads up display, DAB radio, USB connection, front and rear parking aid with colour reverse camera, dual-zone climate control, one-touch front and rear electric windows, a leather multi-function steering wheel, Peugeot Open & Go keyless system, full LED headlamps and LED 'claw effect' rear daytime running lights, Peugeot Smartbeam Assistance, automatic electric parking brake and Hill Assist, electric and heated front seats with electric lumbar adjust, extendable front seat bases and full leather or leather/Alcantara combination upholstery.
There are also tyre pressure sensors, Bluetooth, cruise control and speed limiter, six airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), electronic brake force distribution (EBFD), traction control, dynamic stability control, alarm and remote central locking with deadlocks.
And, wait for it, a panoramic glass roof and 18-inch alloy wheels. Options include a motorised tailgate, driver seat memory function, driver seat massage function and JBL Hi-Fi kit.
