Peugeot Launches Quality 508 Range

Peugeot’s new 508 will officially launch this week at Peugeot Dealerships nationwide. Replacement to the popular 407, the Peugeot 508 range combines strong design and good looks with Peugeot’s latest diesel engines, class-leading driveability, high levels of quality and safety to offer a large, comfortable family car. Prices start from €24,850 plus delivery related charges for the 1.6 HDi 112bhp Access model and rise to €35,150 for the top of the range, 2.0 HDi 163bhp Automatic Allure model.
The 508 is available in three trims – Access, Active and Allure – and in two body styles: a saloon (with a length of 4.79 m) and SW (4.81 m), sporting a huge panoramic glass roof measuring 1.62m2. Both body forms adopt Peugeot’s new single floating grille and piercing headlamps, first seen on the stunning SR1 concept car.

The simple and elegant style of the fascia, the durable materials used and the meticulous finish all work together to reward both driver and passengers with a high quality interior and exceptional interior space. Interior dimensions, on a par with those of the 607, are much improved in relation to the 407 to offer more rear passenger room and a bigger boot.

The boot has a generous volume of 545 litres of liquid (515 dm3 VDA) for the saloon and 660 litres of liquid (560 dm3 VDA) for the SW. With the seat folded in one easy movement, the volume rises to 1,581 litres of liquid (1,381 dm3 VDA) for the saloon and 1,865 litres (1,598 dm3 VDA) for the SW.

The 508 is available in Ireland with a choice of four efficient diesel engines. The 1.6 eHDi 112bhp Stop Start engine is matched to an electronically controlled Ecomatique gearbox and qualifies for Band A €104 annual road tax. The eHDi stop start system reduces fuel consumption by up to 15% during urban driving. The 1.6 HDi 112bhp manual and the 2.0 HDi 140bhp 6-speed engines both qualify for €156 annual road tax. The 2.0 HDi 163bhp 6-speed full automatic offering qualifies for €302 road tax. In 2012, HYbrid4 technology will be introduced, with its 200bhp and all-wheel drive potential, emitting just 99 g/km of CO2 (or zero in electric mode).

All 508s come with hill assist, traction control and the latest-generation ESP, which includes CBC (dynamic stability control), EBA (emergency brake assist) and EBFD (electronic brake force distribution). The 508 is equipped with 6 airbags and 2 Isofix child seat fixtures. The front seats have new curved head restraints, developed to combat the effects of a rear collision and whiplash.

Speaking at the 508 launch, Des Cannon, Sales & Marketing Director at Peugeot Ireland said, “The Peugeot 508 was previewed ahead of its launch by customers at each of our thirty four Peugeot Dealerships throughout March and April and we have received phenomenal feedback. A total of one hundred and nineteen 508s have now been registered in less than 3 weeks to bring our market share up to 4.3% in April. Already orders for the Active 1.6 HDi 112bhp model have surpassed our expectations and a number of customers will have to wait a couple of weeks for their car to be delivered. Interest in the 508 SW is also strong and we have had to revise our production orders for this model. Our sales target for 508 this year is 500 units, which will represent 4% of the M2 segment.”

The 508 will break new ground for Peugeot in terms of build quality. Engineers working on the 508 project completed 2 million kilometre road tests under real life conditions, in a bid to reduce the total cost of ownership, which remains a decisive factor when buying a vehicle in this segment, particularly for corporate fleets.

Peugeot will first produce the new 508 in Rennes, France for the European market and then in Wuhan, China. With a clear ambition of moving from 10th to 7th place in the world by 2015, the new Peugeot 508 will play an important part in growing Peugeot’s international market share.
