New Volkswagen Arteon previewed

Volkswagen has previewed its new Arteon saloon.

This is the first sneak peek at the replacement for the rakish Volkswagen CC and it's called the Arteon.

Due to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, ahead of its market launch next summer, the Arteon is designed to sit above the Passat and is said to 'emphasise emotion in the upper mid-class'.

Volkswagen is building on its current design language of strong, horizontal lines, as the Arteon's grille bars extended into the three-dimensional headlight clusters.

All of the saloon-coupe's four doors are frameless, while the boot is top hinged - as found on the Skoda Superb - so that while it looks like a three-box saloon, it is in actual fact as practical as a hatchback.

Tobias Sühlmann, Volkswagen's exterior designer, said: "At first sight, the Arteon arouses enthusiasm through its expressive design. It then surprises through its practical virtues. This combination is unique."
