Prices for the new Octavia start at €18,995 and at launch there are three engines and three trim levels available.

What's the news?
The new Skoda Octavia goes on sale on 19th March with dealers running open week events to mark the model's arrival. Prices start at €18,995 and at launch there are three engines and three trim levels available.

Exterior
Skoda hasn't changed the looks radically but the new model is 90mm longer and 45mm wider than before, with a 108mm longer wheelbase. Entry-level Active grade models come with 15-inch steel wheels and wheel trims, while alloy wheels are fitted to the Ambition and Elegance versions in 16- and 17-inch sizes.

Interior
The increased dimensions have translated into greater interior room with a longer cabin, extra knee space and more back seat headroom. Boot space is 590 litres, which Skoda describes as 'best in class'. Ambition models get leather trim on the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake while Elegance versions come with wood interior trim. Standard equipment includes front electric windows, a four-speaker sound system and powered door mirrors.

Mechanicals
At launch, customers can chose between the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine and 1.6- and 2.0-litre turbodiesels. Power outputs are 87-, 105- and 150hp respectively. Both diesels come with stop-start to improve economy. The 1.6 TDI has the best fuel economy and lowest CO2 emissions in the range at 74mpg and 99g/km.

Anything else?
Air conditioning is standard on the Advantage trim, which costs €2,350 more than the Active, and also adds an eight-speaker sound system, Bluetooth and rear electric windows. Elegance models get dual-zone climate control, parking sensors and a USB port for the in-car entertainment.
