New Polo arrives in Ireland

Volkswagen's revised Polo hatch has arrived just in time for the '142' plate, with some tempting offers.

What's new?
Volkswagen first showed us the refreshed Polo hatchback a couple of months ago, but now it's fully on sale in Ireland, just as the 142 registration period seems to be swinging into high gear. Prices for the new Polo start from €14,995 and there are a number of new high-end options and standard features, including a touch-screen interface for the radio and infotainment system and a new City Emergency Brake system, which throws out the anchors if it detects an imminent low-speed collision. That clever braking system is actually standard across the range.

There's also a new engine, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol that replaces the old 1.2 and, in spite of being 200cc down, actually feels peppier by far to drive. Exterior changes are pretty minimal though - there's a slightly more rounded look to the front end for instance, but other than that good luck in telling this Polo from the last one.

As well as changes to the standard Polo, there are new engines for the Cross Polo model, with 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TDI 90hp units now featuring. At the top of the range is the new Polo BlueGT model, with a 1.4 TSI engine putting out 150hp, yet sitting in motor tax Band A3 with emissions as low as 108g/km - when fitted with the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

And finally...

The spec sheet is divided into Trendline, BlueMotion, Comfortline, Comfortline +, Cross Polo and BlueGT and Volkswagen is kicking off Polo sales by offering a special €142 a month finance package, which comes with three years' warranty, three years' roadside assistance and either zero per cent finance or €500 cash back.
