If you were disappointed by the absence of genuinely exciting metal at the recent Detroit motor show, then this might cheer you up.

It's called the Falcon, and it was presented by Michigan-based Mach7 Motorsports with such little fanfare that it escaped the eagle eyes of our roving reporters on the show floor.

But it's certainly worth a mention. Beneath the carbon fibre bodywork lies a hydroformed aluminium chassis, with a mid-mounted LS3 General Motors V8 providing 500bhp of power. If that's not enough, there's always the option of dropping in the supercharged LS9 motor, which cranks out 638bhp.

As the Falcon is still very much in the prototype stage, there are no official performance figures yet, but Mach 7 reckons it'll turn similar times to the now-defunct Dodge Viper (the company is best known as a tuner of Vipers).

That should mean a 0-60mph sprint in around 3.5secs, the run to 100mph dealt with in less than 8 seconds and a top speed around 200mph.
