It’s not the kids annoying the parents...

...but the other way around on long car journeys, according to pan-European Ford survey

Swearing, picking their noses, even shouting at other drivers – yep, they’re annoying on a long car journey. But we’re not talking about the kids in the back. Instead, it’s the kids making these observations of the parents in the front.

According to a survey conducted by Ford, it seems children get just as annoyed by adults as vice versa when families cram themselves into cars and head off for a long weekend at the coast.

The number one pet hate for children, says the survey, is parents singing – although, having been on the receiving end of adult passengers who couldn’t hit a note if they tried, we know what the kids mean here.

But apparently, the driving parent shouting at other drivers or – worse – swearing at fellow road-users, also rank highly. On these two scores, we have absolutely no idea what these kids are on about, never heard of such a thing ourselves... ahem!

Also scoring highly as an annoyance in the survey of 2,000 children across Europe was parents picking their noses, which is unforgiveable, really.

However, something that will strike a chord (or a nerve) with parents across the continent is that – despite the ability to put on TV shows and movies on in-car screens in the rear, or the advent of better mobile technology allowing for smartphone and tablet distraction techniques – no matter if the kids are from Italy or Ireland, when they’re bored, there’s one question they’re bound to ask.

“Are we nearly there yet?”

Gaaaaah!
