Following the impact of COVID-19 the retail landscape for buying a car has changed. Consumers now expect a minimal contact transaction, researching, comparing and enquiring online. Throughout the last few weeks of this pandemic, Carzone has been consistently surveying Engaged Car Buyers to understand the evolving buying behaviour.
The research was carried out to examine car buyer behaviour during COVID-19 and how this pandemic will impact the car buying and selling journey. With car dealerships reopened and activity resuming in the Irish motoring industry, the results of this research offers a glimpse into the new normal of car buying, selling and browsing.
Key Findings:
53% of motorists say they would pay a deposit for a car online
24% of motorists would pay in full for a car online
57% would consider buying a car online and having it delivered to their home
55% of car buyers say their car buying budget has not changed
In order to support these findings and the shift towards online transactions, we have introduced a number of flags on car adverts that let buyers know what safety features dealers have in place to make your car buying journey as safe as possible.
