How does an Electric Vehicle Smart Plan work?
This Time-of-Use Tariff splits your usage into four time bands:
- Day (8am to 11pm)
- Night (11pm to 8am - excluding the EV band)
- Peak electricity times (Monday to Friday 5pm to 7pm)
- EV (2am to 5am)
Each time period has its own price for electricity with a lower rate for the EV time band, meaning you can charge your car for less. Your smart meter data will be collected half-hourly. You can also access your home charging data via your online account to get real-time energy usage.

How do I get an Electric Vehicle Home Charger Installed?
Bord Gáis Energy will also install your new home charger with the newest Hive EV charger (EO Mini Pro 3) installed by a trusted local tradesperson with Bord Gáis Energy Local Heroes.
Prices start from €929 with installation (incl. €300 SEAI grant).
How does it work?
- Book your free survey for a quote from an EV charger installer near you.
- Pay deposit to accept it.
- Once your charger is installed, pay the balance.
- Claim €300 back on the cost with the SEAI grant scheme.
