2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial review

We test the new Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial on Irish roads.

Pros: Load space, towing ability, off-road capability.
Cons: Not the most refined, no SWB or manual, pricey.

Toyota Land Cruiser Design

The new Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the most anticipated new vehicle launches and with good reason. There’s a huge amount of pent-up demand for this model, thanks to over 70 years of heritage built on strength, reliability and genuine off-road capability. But it’s this, the two-seat Land Cruiser Commercial, which will take the lion’s share of sales in the Irish market.

Just like the passenger version, it’s more boxy and rugged than before, with a strong front end, rectangular LED headlights and the classic Toyota badge that harks back to older models. Side steps, mud guards and chunky 18-inch alloy wheels come as standard shod with Dunlop Grandtrek tyres, while roof rails, a towing hitch and bonnet deflector are available as accessories.

Toyota Land Cruiser Interior

Inside, Toyota has struck the right balance between modern tech features and old-school durability. There are still plenty of dials and switches, and the quality feels rock solid. The seats are comfortable, finished in soft synthetic leather, and come heated and ventilated with power adjustment for the driver.

New additions include a digital driver display and new touchscreen, though they are modestly sized compared to the passenger version. Still the touchscreen comes with everything you need like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus all the physical buttons you want for climate and off-road controls. Other standard features include adaptive cruise control, parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The load space is vast at 2,129 litres, with a payload of 745kg and useful features like a rubber covering and a 220 volt power outlet. There is access through the two rear doors, while a powered tailgate feels like quite a luxury feature for a workhorse like this. The rear window can also be opened from a button, which adds to practicality. The full size spare wheel is stored underneath. All Commercials are fitted with a metal bulkhead with a mesh top section for added safety and visibility.

Toyota Land Cruiser Performance & Drive

Power comes from a 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 205hp and 500Nm of torque, paired with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and permanent four wheel drive. It’s not a speed machine - 0–100km/h takes about 12 seconds - but it delivers dependable performance and a few drive modes (sport, normal and eco). Fuel consumption is rated at 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres, but it’s possible to do better than that when settled down to a cruise. A mild hybrid version of this engine is expected in 2026 with improved efficiency and responsiveness.

At low speeds or under hard acceleration, the engine can be noisy, but it settles down nicely once cruising. The new Land Cruiser feels more composed than a Hilux and is easy to place on the road. It leans a little in corners, but it’s far from unwieldy, and the ride is comfortable on motorways and in town. Though it does get bumpier on poorly surfaced rural roads.

Off-road, it’s everything you’d expect with useful features like crawl control and downhill assist. It does without the multi-terrain mode selector in the passenger version but there is still easy switchable high and low gear ratios, and a centre differential lock. It’ll go anywhere and bring you back safely, and maybe a trailer too - it has a 3.5 tonne towing capacity.

Toyota Land Cruiser Pricing

The Commercial starts at €70,300 including VAT (€57,192 ex-VAT), while the seven-seat passenger version sits around €140,000.

Carzone Verdict

The new Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial feels every bit as solid and dependable as you’d hope, yet more comfortable than before with sharper design, upgraded cabin and modern tech. The two-seat Commercial is clearly in more demand among Irish buyers, thanks to its price and track record as the backbone of many farms and businesses, blending serious capability with towing power.
