Insurance is likely to be appallingly expensive as all Irish insurers seem to be keen to raise premiums. Stick to a 1.0-litre, no bigger, to get an at least vaguely sane quote, so you're looking at a Micra, Yaris or similar. Not the most exciting cars in the world, it's true, but better than you might think in both cases and, hey, you'll be mobile.
