Worth going to the North for a Golf?

I am looking for a vw golf and was wondering is it cheaper to buy in N.Ireland I live 10miles from border.

Our answer:

Hi Terry,

It can be — certainly there are savings to be made when buying a car in the North, or in the rest of the UK, even once you’ve paid the VRT. That said, it’s well worth looking at local Irish dealers too as many have trimmed their prices (especially those close to the border) to compete with the tide of imports coming in. They may also be able to offer you a better all-round deal in terms of after-sales care and warranty, possibly more so than a dealer in the North or the UK. Basically, shop around — it’s always the best advice.
