Worried about importing from Belfast...

Hi I want to buy a Vauxhall Corsa, 2010 in Belfast but am worried it will cost me a fortune in VRT to drive in Co.Kerry.

Our answer:

Hi Sharon,

You should be able to make a good estimate of the VRT payable before you commit to the deal. Find the CO2 rating for the specific model you are looking at first. Then you can look up the relevant VRT percentage rate. Next, find similar models on sale in Ireland to get a gauge for what Revenue might suggest the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) is and calculate the VRT based on that.

It's not a foolproof system, but you should be able to get close enough to know whether it's worth the hassle.

Or come back to us with full details on the car and we can try to do it for you.
