Hi Shane - looking at potentially buying a bmw 520d 2010 automatic has 190k kms on the clock. It recently got a new engine on warrenty (last month). Seems to drive well. What sort of price is reasonable do you think? Or market value for something like that? Would you think it would depreciate much in say 3 years if there was another 40k kms on it? Thanks!
Hi Conor,
Well, 2010 was the changeover period for the fifth-generation ‘E60’ 5 Series and the sixth-generation ‘F10’. So the first thing is: if it’s an E60 you’re looking at, it’ll be a grand or so cheaper than an equivalent mileage/spec F10. Realistically, 520ds are designed to do mega-miles on the motorway, so high mileages on them is not uncommon; therefore, you adding 40,000km to a car that has done 190,000km already won’t be a major problem for resale in the future, as many 2010 520d models have already done 230,000km and more anyway. We reckon the car you’re looking at should be around the €9,500 to €10,500 mark. Not sure what it will be worth in three years’ time – that will depend on the market and the effect a new 5 Series model would have on residuals of older generations.
