Hi, I'm looking to purchase a 2006 BMW 320 diesel soon. Would you envisage any difficulties reselling this car in five years or would it be too old? Any suggestions on how to recoup some of the €7k price would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Aron
Hi Aron,
Unless the oft-spoken of ban on diesel-engined cars getting into city centres comes about, then no I don’t reckon it’s a car you’ll ever have trouble moving on. The 320d is regularly right up there in the most searched-for cars on Carzone, so its perennially popular. In terms of holding on to value, it’s best to go for a dark metallic colour and make sure it has leather seats and an automatic gearbox. Other than that, the best way to retain value is to look after it – a full main dealer service history, for instance, can be worth as much as €1,500 come resale time and keeping a big folder stuffed with receipts for services, tyres, oil, filters as well as NCT certs, tax discs and anything else you spend money on would always be of help.
