Will I go hybrid next?

Hi I drive a 2010 diesel quashqai and am hoping to buy a 2017 ish car, should I look to get a hybrid for when I am looking to resell latr ? Thanks. Also looking for similar car or possibly slightly smaller

Our answer:

Hi Amanda,

The answer depends on a lot of factors, and you've not given us much information to go on. If you cover no more than around 20,000km a year, and most of that is at relatively low speed (i.e. not on the motorway all the time), then it definitely makes sense not to go for a diesel next. They don't make sense for lower mileage at lower speeds, often costing more in the long run because of extra maintenance. Also, as you've alluded to, it's possible that the value of older diesels will decline in years to come, but it depends on how long you're talking about holding onto your car.

If you let us know your budget and how many people you need to carry around regularly, we can come up with some suggestions from 2017 on, but it may well be that a normal petrol engine suits you best.
