You've not told us which engine exactly, but the answer is probably more or less the same, regardless. The Santa Fe didn't change much in those years so there's no doubt that the older engine will physically fit in the engine bay. The difficulty could be the wiring loom and sensors, etc. That's always a challenge when replacing an engine with one that is not identical. Best to discuss with a mechanic that might be doing the work before you invest any money in the transplant.
