Why is there so many 2008-2009 bmw 3 series for sale at the moment for €4-5000. Considering buying one, is there anything to lookout for or a reason they are all up around this age ?
Hi DK,
There was a potential issue with the timing chain on the 2.0-litre turbodiesel but BMW claimed to have fixed it for the 2011 model year cars, which would be around 2010 in calendar year terms. This might explain why there are plenty of 2008 and 2009 models up at a cheap price, if they’re all 316d, 318d and 320d models which used that engine. Other than that, might just be a case of supply and demand depressing used values. To us, €5,000 for a 12-year-old BMW 3 Series with average mileage on it doesn’t sound suspiciously cheap.
