Why is my Ibiza so expensive to fix?

Hi Shane, I purchased a new seat Ibiza in 2011.It's a 1.2 turbo diesel. The car does very little mileage at present there is 39000 kilometres on the clock.Recently a warning light has come on displaying a picture of the engine. When the car was brought to the dealership I was quoted 800 Euro for the repair. It doesn't seem to the the diesel particular filter to be the problem. Have you any idea what the cause maybe? Is this problem likely to occur again. Regards, Sean Brennan.

Our answer:

Hi Sean,

I'm afraid we simply couldn't tell, Sean. An engine check light can be any number of things from a particulate filter to an engine management control unit to - well, just about anything.

The only thing I can suggest is that you talk to your garage about what is wrong and see if there's some way they can come up with a more affordable repair - potentially by using a second hand or reconditioned replacement part instead of a new one perhaps?
