Why does Volvo not get premium recognition?

Hi,

Why does Volvo not get justly recognised as a car manufacturer that continuously changes its design way above the competition? BMW and Audi are so generic and boring now.

Our answer:

Hi Kevin,

Short answer? Marketing. BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have spent decades and billions to convince us all that they're slick, sexy and desirable. In fairness they've backed that up with some seriously good engineering and some great cars, but you're right to point out that the gap between them and Volvo is mostly down to perception.

It's changing though. Volvo is still in the process of shrugging off its family car roots and moving into the premium sphere. If you think of it, it's now in the position Audi was in the early to mid eighties. Given time, I see no reason why Volvo won't eventually be considered every bit as desirable as one of the Germans and the new XC90 is a major landmark on that road.
