Unfortunately, there is a known issue with the timing chain in that generation of Volkswagen Golf that can cause expensive problems. Can you get the garage to explain to you why it needs a new timing chain and what made them decide upon that? A car without issues would not have had one timing chain replaced in 150,000km, never mind two.

If you bought this car new from Volkswagen then we'd suggest contacting Volkswagen customer care on 1850 81 2761 and suggest that, as this is a well-documented issue, it could assist with repairs.
