Why are Opels cheaper?

Why are Opel cars cheaper than their competitor cars? For instance, I've been looking at getting a used car, newer than 2011. The average price from a dealer for a good condition Yaris with average mileage is 10,000-11,000 euro, but the Opel Corsa is much lower(8-9k). They're cheaper than Ford Fiestas and VW Polos too. Yaris has a better resale value I know, but why such a massive difference in price?

Our answer:

Hi Ciaran,

It’s a simple element of both supply and demand (lots of Corsas out there means that there’s a little over-supply in the market) and the brand image of the model and the make. The sad fact for fans of Opel is that Volkswagen, Toyota and Ford are all held in (sometimes only slightly) higher regard than the cars from Russelsheim. The Toyota commands an extra price premium largely because of its bulletproof reliability.
