What size engine should I be looking at for used car if I do less than 10k klms per year? Are 1.2 petrol engines nowadays as good as the 1.4 2007 Octavia I currently have for example?
Hi Robbie,
Engine size is becoming less relevant for sure, especially with turbocharging and hybrid assistance. A modern 1.2-litre petrol engine is highly likely to be turbocharged, in which case it will easily out-perform the 1.4-litre engine in your 2007 Octavia. In fact, the same could be said of most turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engines.
Make sure you test drive any car you are considering to ensure you are happy with the performance.
