Which of these small cars to go for?

Im getting a brand new car and im deciding between a mazda 2 , ford fiesta zeta, dacia sandero stepaway 1.5 diesal or hyundai i20? Which would be the best option? I do high mileage but want a car which has low running costs and reliable and maybe you could offer me better options? My budget is 16000 to 17000 and I do up to 25000 miles a yr Thanks

Hi Darragh,

I think that the two standouts there are the Mazda or the Fiesta, which are both really good cars even on longer journeys. You can get the Mazda with a 1.5 diesel and the Ford with a 1.4 TDCi diesel, but you’ll have to shop around to find them. That said, the petrol options are still pretty viable, even on long hauls. The Sandero is a good, affordable choice, but it’s unrefined and not as comfy as the others on a long run, and the Stepway is pointless — why would they ask you to pay an extra €2,000 for some stick on plastic bits and roof rails? The i20 is a very good outside choice, especially with the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. It’s slightly bigger and, arguably, a little more comfortable than either the Ford or the Mazda, so it’s well worth a look.
