The three you mention are all very solid, but our personal preference – right now – is the Audi A8. The current Mercedes S-Class is due for replacement any day soon, so if you really want one of those then you’re better off waiting until the new one arrives, while the BMW 7 Series is a wonderful thing but we reckon its appearance has been severely marred by the 2019 facelift, which foisted the awful, oversized kidney grilles onto the Seven’s front end. The Jaguar XJ is too old and a Volvo S90 is presumably not grand enough, but there are more options you could consider – such as a Maserati Ghibli or even a Quattroporte, or the technologically advanced Lexus LS. And have you thought about trying a Porsche Panamera?
