It all depends on what you want and what you need. €25k puts you right in the heart of the family hatchback market, so there’s a huge choice – Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Peugeot 308, Opel Astra, Toyota Auris, Kia cee’d and so on. Or you could think of buying a compact crossover such as a Suzuki Vitara, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 or Mazda CX-3. You won’t get a mid-size crossover for €25k unless you’re happy to buy a bog-basic model with a petrol engine, but if that’s what you fancy then the new SEAT Ateca clocks in at a hair under €25k and is an excellent choice.
