Hi, I'm looking to buy a second had SUV with 7 seats as we have 4 children ages 7 - 13. 80% of the driving would be city based but with kids getting bigger, bikes and roof boxes we need a bit of power when we do take long journeys. We only do about 13,000 km a year. I'm also concerned about spending too much money with the move to electric and hybrid making any purchase of diesel obsolete and expensive with changes to pricing of emissions/motor taxes and fuel. We have a 1.6 petrol 2004 Zafira but it's struggling to do the job. I'm not concerned about the age of my purchase but priorities are low mileage and reliability along with good value.(The magic SUV I guess). Budget under €30k if possible. Philip.
Hi Philip,
Ah, a lovely, easy one to answer this – seven seats, reliability, good value; you need to be thinking Korean. Either of the Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento are lovely big SUVs, with strong, economical diesel engines that are unlikely to be punished by changes to tax laws, as they’re clean and modern. Look back to 2014 or 2015 for good used examples of either under €30,000 – and they might be still under the manufacturer warranty.
