Which fuel to go for?

Which fuel to go for?

I’m going to buy a new car. I would like to buy an ev , but I think that it is too early now. The mid solution could be a plug in hybrid ev but they are incredibly expensive at the moment. This transitional period is very uncertain and I would avoid to pay thousand of euros for a car that could lose all the value in the next 5 years. Another option could be diesel, but All Europe in general is planning to gradually reduce the number of diesel vehicles within next 10 years. I commute every day from co Meath to Dublin therefore petrol is quite expensive. Do you have any suggestions?

Our answer:

Hi Claudio,

Realistically, with the mileage you’re doing, your best bet now is indeed diesel – followed by either the PHEV or EV, depending on whether you can charge them regularly and easily at work/home. If you’re buying a new diesel, it will be the latest EU6-compliant version with the cleanest possible engine, so you shouldn’t get clobbered on any stealth taxes in the next five years. The PHEVs and EVs are the cleanest of all, of course, but they are expensive.
