I need to trade in my 2008 BMW 320D and I was thinking of an SUV/ crossover but fuel economy would be important as I drive over 20,000 a year mostly motorway trips. I have 2 kids also to transport to school. Was looking at Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tuscon,Seat Ateca, Mazda CX5, Honda CRV, Toyota RAV 4 as would prefer higher up car due to back issues. However also looked at VW Jetta, Skoda Octavia, Mazda 3. Which would you reccommend for fuel economy? My budget is 20,000 plus the trade in of my BMW
Hi Aileen,
Well, obviously, the Jetta, Octavia, or Mazda3 would be more economical than any of the SUVs - 55-60mpg as opposed to 40-45mpg in daily driving. Of the ones you’ve mentioned, I reckon the Qashqai, with the 1.5 dCi diesel engine, is going to be the most economical overall, the Mazda CX-5 the most thirsty and the rest somewhere in the middle.
