Well, we’d rule out the A7. There’s nothing wrong with it but unless you really like its aesthetic, the A6 is the better all-round car. We’d recommend an S line A6 Avant as a good buy, but you should be able to get the current model Mercedes E 220 d, which is fitted with the latest 2.0-litre turbodiesel. Realistically, your annual mileage means you could get away with a petrol model, but such engines are hard to find in executive cars in this price bracket.
